Finding Nature while living in a city as a Blind Witch

Hi Readers,

As part of my practice I make a point to spend time outside as much as possible. The frequency of which may vary from day to day based on what is happening in my life. Furthermore, I like a lot of people live in a city. Additionally, I do not have the ability to drive. Despite these minor issues which can become quite frustrating I find nature in various forms within the city I live. I find nature in the local plants, animals, and within the parks. As I walk down streets, I am surrounded by the elements in some form such as the Sun, the earth beneath my feet, and so forth. Also, the city itself has spaces within that are more natural like hills, mountains, and so on. They may be hidden or closer to outer parts of the city for some, but it is still part of the area. Moreover, in connecting with where I live, I can connect with the energy of the land around me even If it is surrounded by buildings, people, traffic, and other forms of industrial structures. Through the connection I have made with this land I can work with it in my magic as a Witch.

I started by meditating in different areas in the city such as parks. I started taking walks regularly and noticing the area around me. I did this by paying attention to the sounds around me throughout each season, day, and so on. I payed attention to what animals are present in addition to the weather. I returned to different places and connected with the energy of that place by sitting, listening, and paying attention. I built it all up from that point.

However, I will also admit that locating larger natural places such as camp sites are not the most accessible nor easy to get to without assistance. This does not mean I do not do rituals and spells outside. I do them in my backyard, on a balcony, at a park, or somewhere within my area I have found  sacred places within my area that have not been around for a long time, in addition to  a place that has played a role within my life. Even in the most urban of places you can find nature and places to work magic.

All of this said I do take precautions so that I am not breaking any laws. I do not bring any tools that can be stolen or viewed as a weapon by law enforcement. Further, I usually will work my spells in an area during the day and do things that will not draw a lot of attention. However, If I am going to do something larger or that I feel is private, I will use the nature around me to do my working such as what is in the area, depending on where I am. If I feel that the place is not a good place to work, I will work in the backyard or other part outside my home. It all depends. Further, when I am out, I will bring crystals or a travel altar such as the one I used on a recent trip with me as well.

Additionally, I have worked magic before I leave my home such as on my way to school or before I get home. Magic can be done anywhere and in different ways. I believe this because being a Witch for me does not end when I am away from my altar. I am a Witch regardless of what is going on in life. Being a Witch is more than just the stuff I have or my altar. It is who I am everyday and night.

I hope that by sharing these experiences and my thoughts this had allowed you to consider how you can incorporate Witchcraft in what ever form that is for you,  in your life whether you live in  a city, suburb, or somewhere else.

Many Blessings!
