The above picture is just one way in which I have used fire within my personal practice. Fire is something I am both scared of and that I respect. Fire can destroy things and help us. However, despite having a fear of fire, I do what I can to overcome in order for me to work with it. I have written prior about candle magick In that post I give tips for dressing candles along with how I work with them. Candle magick isn’t the only way. I have done fires within ritual using my cauldron, a bonfire, a fireplace, and so forth. Fire can be a transformative item to use within your practice.
However, it is important to keep in mind safety measures such as making sure nothing flammable is around, that you have a fire extinguisher nearby, and most importantly that you do not leave anything burning unattended. Another way I have used fire is by scrying with fire. With the vision I have I can see a burning fire and I also receive visual images along with receiving sounds and feelings. I have used fire during different types of magick. I used it in banishing, healing, cleansings, consecrations, blessings, and so many others.
Some tips I would give are If you can’t light candles use your visualization, or you can burn them in a safe way. Use a plate underneath the candle, make sure the surface is safe and can withstand heat. Also, make sure the candles you use are high quality, and it is a good idea to trim the wick so that it burns evenly. Once during a cleansing ritual, I was doing a candle spell for cleansing my home and my altar nearly caught fire. I always keep water nearby in case that happens and I was glad I did. My altar cloth and table got burned as I barely caught it in time. This is just what works for me, but I encourage you to work with fire and see for yourself. Just remember to be safe about it!
