Meditation series part 1: what is meditation my view and more about the series.

Welcome to the first part in a 3-part meditation series!! I wish to give you an overview regarding meditation from my perspective both as it pertains to my daily life and personal practice. In this post, I would like to give what meditation is from my view. I will also be discussing within this series different types, tips, how to meditate, and sharing resources in addition to my thoughts. Keep in mind, I am not an expert so If you are aware of something regarding meditation please leave a comment!

Meditation in my view, is a way in which to alter your state of consciousness to achieve a goal, or for a specific task. This may include to clear the mind, relax, gain wisdom, or for some other purpose such as to gain focus. Meditation has been practiced in some form or another around the world for both religious and spiritual pursuits. This said, I do not believe meditation needs to be used within one set of beliefs or cultures for someone to incorporate it into their lives. I do recognize that it has a great deal of history and significance in several cultures, religious and other spiritual traditions both in the East and West. Several of these are still practiced to this day. Further, I believe meditation can assist in several facets of life including relaxation, reducing stress, and so forth but I do not believe that meditation needs to be limited to these areas. Also, when discussing altered states of consciousness that can take several forms which I will cover some in the next post.

For myself, I practice a wide variety of meditations. I use meditation for relaxation, guidance, to gain perspective and to connect with spirits I work with as well with the Divine. I have used meditation prior to casting any spells, along with using meditation to contemplate on a concept either before, during, or after a ritual. For instance, I cast a spell regarding banishing something from my life. Prior to the banishing I used meditation to not only become focused, to assist me in concentration, but also to allow me to be clear about my goal. I have used meditation to help ground me after a spell or ritual.

These are just a few ways in which I have used meditation, in addition to detailing what meditation is from my point of view. I look forward to discussing meditation in more detail within this series and If you any thoughts or comment leave them below!
