When I first started practicing Paganism in particular, Witchcraft I did not come to it wanting to practice magick. Magick was certainly something I was interested in, but I was focused primarily on connecting with Deity along with more spiritual endeavors. I believed at the time magick was something to be used only as a last resort or when I have exhausted all mundane options. I rarely cast any spells saving them when I need to do so. Over time and as I grew within my practice, I started to find a balance between how often I worked spells and I learned how essential magick is to my own practice. This is something that has continued into today. Currently, I would like to discuss how often I cast spells today as it pertains to my practice. The answer is both short and long at the same time.
When it comes to casting spells, I usually will look at the mundane options before anything else. I believe magick is in everything I do so I do not truly separate it from everyday tasks. For example, I set my intention for the day each day or as I write something, I am choosing my words carefully. Moreover, these are not the only ways. I believe each Witch casts spells and works magick in their own way. What looks like a spell to some might be different for others. Also, I started out writing my spells either in whole within the context of a larger ritual or just as brief parts such as what I would use, creating a chant, looking at correspondences, or choosing the day I would be casting my spell. Lately, a lot of these elements still pertain to my current practice. However, I have been casting spells more often than when I first began. Writing is usually part of the process as is once was often when I started, I forgot to make a record of it in the Book of Shadows I kept at the time. I had notes of course but I still regret not fully writing it all day for future use. This said, today I write down as much as possible though I will state that though I do not write as much before casting the spell in question, it is mainly due to the fact that the spells I am currently casting are not usually planned. We are living in uncertain times and as such I believe the magick I am doing reflects that. Furthermore, I am casting spell often, however it depends on the situation, how much time I have, and the day itself. Additionally, all the spells I cast right now are for the long-term. For clarification I mean that I do some preliminary planning taking into consideration what I mentioned above like timing, days of the week, moon phases, etc. However, a major component is that I am not just casting a spell and I am done. I am casting spells that take time to manifest, that require more than just one casting. For example, getting a job takes time so does moving and other life transitions. All of which takes energy and action to aid in the manifestation process.
Currently, this is how often I cast spells, sometimes it is every day, sometimes it is formal, sometimes it is spontaneous, and ultimately, they do all manifest but some may take more time then others. I hope that by sharing how often I cast spells this will help understand my perspective in addition to assisting you within your own practice in some way.
