Crystal Series Part 1: Choosing and connecting with crystals.

This is a picture of two crystals that I own. Both are tumbled pieces in the courts family. One is clear quartz, the other is amethyst.

Hi Readers,

Welcome to part 1 in a 3-part series on crystals.

Over the next few posts I will be discussing 2 different topics regarding crystals.

As I stated IN My Previous Post crystals are one of  my most used items in my practice in addition to being one of the most versatile. Further, I have always stated to anyone looking into crystals especially when it comes to purchasing, the crystal chooses you. Additionally, I thought I would talk about how I go about choosing a crystal. I felt that this would be the topic I discussed first as a lot of people want to understand how to choose a crystal and what it is for.

Several books exist on how crystals work, what properties they have and so forth. I read books on the subject and I find it useful. However, I tend to choose crystals on an energetic and intuitive level. For example, I went to a store while I was visiting a new city for the first time, and they contained several shelves, tables, and counters full of crystals. I focus on what I feel pulled or drawn to the most which may feel different for everyone it might just be a feeling, a sense of knowing, or something else. Everyone is different.

For myself, I went to the first table which housed various crystals I could not see well enough to read the cards attached nor by color. So, I just picked one up and paid attention to how it felt in my hand not just physically but whether not I received any form of energetic connection. For me when I use my hands it feels like either heat or a tingling sensation however it can also vary. If nothing happens If decide to try this, you can do another method like switching hands or just maybe asking questions on how you feel. It may take time for you to know If it feels right. Also, when I was in the same shop I browsed around to each table and shelf I could find. However, I felt drawn back to the same place I started with and I ended up taking that crystal. In the case of that store it was a piece of obsidian that I have not heard of prior to that day.

If you go to a place where the crystals are mixed up just pick up several crystals and I find that for myself If I choose the same crystal more than once or keep coming back to it that usually means I am connecting with that particular crystals energy. Again, if you do this and nothing happens just keep calm and If you find something where you feel it’s important to have it for whatever reason then buy it. If you are uncertain just choose something If it feels right. Just know that If you can’t afford it at that point, then keep looking or come back to the store another day. Do what work for you.

One thing I wish I had done when I was first entering the realm of crystals was to not buy so many at once. I bought a lot my first time and I have now have so many I can barely store them. If you are starting out or choosing crystals for the first time, I would say don’t do what I did or at least start with a smaller amount than I did. I would say start with 4 crystals then continue If you feel connected to them. I would get different crystals so you can work with them to determine what types of crystals work for you.

If you have purchased a crystal and are not sure what to do with it, I would cleanse it as soon as you get it home or as soon as you can. I will touch more on cleansing in the next post, but I want to say one thing about it. I am not someone who cleanses my crystals frequently only when I first purchase them. What method you choose will depend on the crystal. This is where I believe understanding crystals from a geological perspective knowing If that crystal can physically withstand being in water, salt, handle being passed through smoke, and so on. Further whether the crystal you purchase is raw or tumbled may also make a difference in how you cleanse it. If you are uncertain of this information because you don’t know what the crystal is, or you are unsure how to find it look for an image If you can see it by taking a picture and looking for the crystal online. If you still can’t find out for any other reason, I would say leaving them out in moonlight is your best option. I find the full moon to be the best option for this but go with what works for you.

Also, once you have cleansed the crystal, I would start with learning how that crystal connects with you personally. I would meditate with the crystal either by holding the crystal in your hand during the meditation, keeping it where you can see it, or something else depending on the meditation. Further, after you meditate with the crystal keeping it with you either in a purse, backpack, in your pocket, or on your nightstand so you can figure out how that crystal makes you feel. Lastly, I would keep this crystal with you for at least a week to two weeks. This way you have spent time with it both in meditation and in general whereby you will have an understanding on how that crystal works with you and your energy personally. You can also look at that individual crystal’s properties both for healing in addition to on a metaphysical level. I will touch more on this in a future post. For example, clear quartz is used metaphysically for several things most notably for being great for amplifying any form of energy such as to promote healing. Clear quartz is also a great energy conductor and it is used in watches and computers.

I hope you have enjoyed the first part of this series.
