This is my travel altar. The altar is a blue velvet bag. It is centered on my main altar where you see items like a bell that I use. Inside the altar bag are various crystals including amethyst, clear quartz etc.

Hi Readers,

First and foremost, before getting into the post, I would like to take some time out and wish those of you in the United States a belated happy fourth of July. I hope you had a safe and fun time however you celebrated. Furthermore, I want to take some time and state that my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the 6.4 Earthquake that took place yesterday in southern California and the 5.4 aftershock which took place early this morning as of this writing. I hope for those who have been affected are safe and I wish you blessings of strength during this time.

With all of that said, I am continuing my discussion of my travel altar. If you have not read my post on traveling as a Witch where I discussed this in addition to other related topics, you can read it here

In that post I discussed some of the considerations I make when creating a travel altar. Some of these include how I will be traveling, where I am going, and how long I will be staying at my destination. When building this travel altar, I decided that since I will be gone for a longer time than a weekend trip, I decided carefully on what I could take. One important thing I want to remind people. You don’t need anything with you to practice Witchcraft. I chose to do this because I wanted something to remind me of home and I find that when I am in new or unfamiliar places having something familiar in addition to something, I connect with regularly helps me focus. Nature is something I take inspiration from so I may just use what is around me where I am which in turn helps me connect with the land I am in as well. As I stated in my previous post, I may not take anything with me.

Since I am flying to arrive at all my destinations, in addition to a hotel stay I already knew the rooms are nonsmoking and not everywhere has a place to burn candles. Also, it is important to note that I do use fire in my practice which is why I mention the candles. So, I decided while building it that I would choose objects that are natural, and I incorporated colors to represent everything someone might have on any altar such as the elements. Further, I work in addition to own a large collection of crystals, so I decided to create the altar entirely out of them. When I chose my crystals, I made sure they were already cleansed and programmed for the specific purposes they would serve on my altar.

Also, I made sure to do this at least a day or two before so I already had everything in place to put inside my altar. The only choice I didn’t really choose mostly because of time and availability of items was the bag itself. The color was all they had but it does fit with the season because the ocean is something that is important to me.  I grew up spending time at the beach during this time of year. In addition, I made sure to choose the crystals that correlate directly to the workings I would be doing. For example, If I need some money for any given reason or I need healing for any reason I would choose a crystal with those specific properties that I have already used. I could do this by looking it up online, through books, and by reviewing what crystals I have used for those purposes. In this case, I do work with the elements as well, so I chose crystals to represent them. In this case I used amethyst for spirit, citrine for air, obsidian for fire because of how it is formed, and the last crystal I am not sure what it is called but I know it is related to healing in addition to water. The other great aspect to using a bag as the place for my altar is, I can use it as an altar cloth, and it is easy to both store the altar along with the contents in a purse or bag. Lastly, I also made sure to cleanse the bag and consecrate everything before I placed anything inside which something I do with my main altar.

I hope that this has given you inspiration for your own travel altar ideas.
