Beltane 2023 Celebrating alone and with friends.

Hi Readers,

I hope all are well. Welcome to May!! I am excited for a new month and by extension a new season!! Beltane, which is a holiday celebrated by most Pagans, just passed yesterday and I celebrated with friends and alone. I do not always celebrate Beltane even though Beltane is a significant holiday for me. Beltane was the first I’ve heard about which you can learn more about it by watching this video from an old special from national geographic. That video inspired me to get into Wicca when I first started in terms of learning about incense, Beltane, and other aspects of the path. I want to discuss how I celebrated alone and in a group.

Celebrating alone and with friends:

Since I have been busy fixing my phone this weekend, finishing last minute school preparations, and other life happenings I did not have much time to prepare my altar as I had planned. Honestly, I was not feeling up to celebrating because I honestly had no idea what I was celebrating at this point. Well fast forward to May 1st.

I did not sleep well the night before but when I got up, I just felt like I wanted to celebrate. I did not know IF it was the energy of the day or what was going on, so I started my morning daily practice. That turned into a full ritual with music and offerings. Then, I celebrated with friends, and I think being with friends though in a virtual space was helpful. We all connected and worked well together in a group. We all have differing paths, but we had a ritual that was simple and to the point with some deviation we just went with it. I kept it simple when I was alone though. I focused on meditating on this new season and what I bring forward such as gratitude, prayer as in praying more, and connecting with myself more. In the sense of self-love and practicing self-care. I did that after the ritual with friends I spent time relaxing and just enjoying the silence as well.

In this simple celebration of Beltane with both friends and alone I learned why I was not up to it before. A lot of it had to do with isolation like not knowing others in your area is a Witch is hard. Also, dealing with anxiety and depression does not help either. What got me through though was just going through my practice grounded me and going through the ritual helped me recenter and realize what the day meant for me.

I would love to know how you celebrated If you did. If not, how are you bringing in the month of May?

I discuss more in the video below:
