Imbolc 2023.

Hi Readers,

I have been considering how to discuss the current season we are in lately. As the weather where I am has been mixed with                              spring temperatures some days and cool rainy conditions the next. I have been contemplating what the Imbolc season means for me in terms of how I celebrate and when. In this post, I go over all of this and discuss my alter shown in the picture and video below.

My altar for the Imbolc season. My tools such as a wand, candles in various colors, and a white cloth are present.
This is how I decided to set up my altar for this season I wanted to show case the elements, the fire aspect of the season, and cleansing with the white cloth.

For me, the Imbolc season this year is different than in previous years. For many, people celebrate Imbolc as a time for noticing the slowly returning of spring, they also celebrate the Goddess Brigid or St. Brigid as she is also known. People create items in dedication to her and for others it is a time of cleansing, renewal, and dedication to a person’s chosen path. Finally, candles are a huge part of this celebrations. For me, I celebrated 3 major themes this year.

Cleansing and Renewal:

As part of my Imbolc celebrations I decided to cleanse and consecrate my sacred space where my altar is kept. Typically, most celebrate Imbolc around February 1-2 but this varies between person and group along with what tradition or set of practices they follow. I celebrated on the 1st as this is when I had an opportunity I took advantage of the nice whether we had that day. I decided to cleanse myself in the process as it had been a long time since doing so. I usually do cleansings twice a year and, in some cases, monthly depending on what is happening in my life. For me, I consecrated my space educating it to both what I would doing in the space after the cleansing and I used both fire and other aspects as part of my cleansing process such as sound through music, and a formal ritual. I also took the time during the ritual to bless candles I would be using as part of my spells and rituals in addition to other items I used like incense.

After I completed all of this I took time to mediate on this season and what I wished to bring forward with me this year and what I want to work during this season. I felt that my space and self were renewed after the ritual and spent time doing divination through different methods including tarot through  an app, crystals, and other tools I use.

Blessings and Rededication:

As I mentioned above, I decided to bless candles and other objects I use in my practice. Along with these objects I considered rededication to the path I walk and how I connect to magick,    and Deities I work with currently. Several years ago, I dedicated myself to my path of Witchcraft in my case learning Wicca and what that involved in terms of concepts, ritual, and how magick fit into all of that. I have not looked back since and I decided to refocus on those ideas I have learned in addition to other aspects. I considered the blessings I have received in my life overall and what I look forward to receiving this season. I feel that blessings come in many forms which could be experiences, people, opportunities, and sometimes items. Whether it is something someone said as a kind word or just being able to appreciate something as simple as coffee they are smaller blessings which in turn can lead to larger ones.

Gratitude:

After all of this, I need my ritual that night with gratitude. I also began with giving thanks for the approaching season and what is to come. I am thankful for the opportunities I am given, life experiences, and my ability to share what I have learned to help others along with grow the communities I am in. I am grateful for the new and old friends I am making as well.

I am excited for what is to come next!
