Practicing Witchcraft on a budget.

Hi readers,

As I stated in my previous post Witchcraft can be practiced without any tools such as candles or herbs.  However, if you do feel like you need any kind of tool to use within your practice it does not have to cost you a lot of money. For myself, I have owned the same tools I have used as part of my practice since a year or so after I started. Over the years I have acquired things but not all of them have cost me over $100. If anything, the most I’ve paid for as far as tools go within my practice is about $40 or so. However, it does depend on what I am looking into purchasing.

I have always tried to buy things on a budget like at the dollar stores, thrift stores sometimes, or just from friends. Also, If I didn’t have something, I would use something else to represent it like dirt for the element of Earth, a birthday candle for fire If it is all I have, or a picture that symbolizes something I am working on.

Additionally, If I have the skill to make the item I will. I once made a pentacle for my altar out of clay because I didn’t have anything else to use. I buy tealight candles in bulk at target, the dollar store, or use birthday candles If it is all I have available. If you can’t burn incense or candles use something else. I did the same thing with incense by purchasing in bulk or learning how to make loose incense.

I lived in different places where for one reason or another burning something was not allowed so I used something else to represent it or I would keep it around, but I wouldn’t light it. Another thing you can try is using a lamp, essential oil burner like the ones with the candles but they also have oil diffusers that use water. Another thing you can use are wax warmers. You can also use regular stones or rocks you find to represent something like an element or If you are artistic you can paint or draw a picture of your goal.

Some other ideas are you can use flowers, herbs, spices, in place of candles depending on the spell. If you are really into herbs you can get them in bulk at the grocery store or grow them yourself. If you can’t grow herbs or not good at gardening you can always consider using spices as well. I used ground pepper to represent fire in a spell I cast.

One of my favorite things that I use regularly that do not have to be expensive are crystals. You can buy tumbled instead of raw ones, you can go to rock and gem shows to find some as well, and you can ask people around you. If you don’t know anyone you can usually find crystals in addition to stores online. I would do your research before making any purchase just to make sure you are getting the most affordable and high-quality item.

Personally, I don’t like to purchase crystals online but that’s because I believe the crystal chooses the person and a lot of people sell fake crystals.

One book that influenced me was Witchcraft on A Shoestring by Deborah Blake. This book goes over everything from giving you sections on where to buy supplies, how to make a Book Of Shadows or Grimoire depending on what you call it, art and craft ideas for holidays in addition to other times, creating sacred space within your home on a budget and more. This book gave me further inspiration and ideas that I didn’t consider. I thought it was a good read you can find craft ideas, budget friendly suggestions for recipes, and more in this book.

How do you shop for your practice on a budget? Do you have any other tips?

I hope this has given you more ideas to consider and other ways you can still practice without spending a lot of money.

As always I wish you peace and blessings during this week!

Many Blessings!
